Why some people are not fit to be a leader?

30 Mar, 2021

We all think that we have the qualities of a great leader, but most of us are not.  The bitter truth is that we live in a world teeming with individuals aspiring to occupy leadership positions.  As much as some people hate to admit the truth, no one can be a leader.  An unbridled desire to lead does not mean that a person possesses the strength of character skills and courage that qualifies him to be a leader.  We often wonder about the steps necessary to reach the top in our professional life as we assume that there is a magic formula that we apply to make us achieve our goal.  While the roads to driving are numerous, not all are equal in degree of ease or difficulty.

Perhaps it is worth noting here that many who want to make tangible progress in their career are not interested in helping others achieve the same thing, and I have always been surprised by the large number of people who occupy leadership positions without being worthy of them, but I stopped that as soon as I knew that those responsible for developing leadership skills in the first place, cannot determine what are the main ingredients that makes a person a leader.  I hope the following list helps you understand the reasons behind a person’s inability to become a leader.

You are not suitable for a leadership position if you are:

  1. Don’t Get Result…Real leaders do their jobs well and always strive to exceed expectations.
  2. Results Achieved In An Unfair Way…If your only way to solve the problem related to the previous point is to practice deception and misinformation, you are not a leader. The end does not justify the means.  If you abuse your power, do not treat people well or manipulate others, you may win some rounds but finally lose the war.  The preference for interests over morals does not end with a good ending.
  3. Do Not Care…Indifference is a trait that does not lend itself to leadership. If you are not one of those who do not care about the condition of the workers under their command, it is impossible to be a successful leader.  The real test of leadership is with positive effects on employee performance.
  4. Stiving For A Higher Position NOT A Higher Goal…If Self-Interest Prevails over work interest, then you are simply not aware of the concept of leadership. It obligates the leader to think beyond his personal interests and try to elevate his subordinates to a better position, even at the expense of his progress.
  5. More Concerned With Making Progress Than Fulfilling Them…Leadership is not linked to words, but to actions. Although the leaders must express his vision verbally in the beginning, the application of this vision on the ground is what makes him a successful leader in the end.
  6. Restricting The Freedom Of Employees…You should refrain from telling people what they can or cannot do. The leader does not restrict the freedom of others, but rather does the opposite.  If you want to be successful in your endeavours towards leadership, you should help people achieve results that they do not know how to achieve.
  7. Stick To The Routine Than Breaking It…Monotony is leadership’s greatest enemy. All endeavours of the leader will fail if he does not realise his urgent need for change and the possession of the capabilities required to make that change.
  8. Neglecting Your Talents Instead Of Developing Them…The true leader works to enhance talents, not lose them. If you cannot acquire, develop or even maintain the talent then you are not a leader.
  9. Monopolises Praise Instead Of Giving It…The true leader does not seek to attract the spotlight, but rather reflect it on others. The best leaders are those who only use the word “I” when taking personal responsibility for failure.  On the other hand, they take the initiative to use the word “we” when referring to success.
  10. You Care About Workflow More Than People…You have no value without the people who work with you, and when you prefer material things over them, you are without a doubt a failed leader.
