CRISIS MANAGEMENT

12 Jul, 2022

The term Crisis has become a terminology used at all levels and at various social levels.

Dealing with crises is one of the axes of interest in management, as it requires the presence of a special type of Managers characterised by many skills to name a few:

  • The ability to think Creatively.
  • The ability to Communicate and Dialogue.
  • The ability to formulate and draw the tactics necessary to deal with the crisis.

Crisis that occur in organisations are nothing but sudden changes in the internal as well as in the external environments without expecting them.  Not dealing with crisis rationally or not being able to manage them well, goes in the same tendency towards moving from bad to worse.

Therefore, there is a need for developing appropriate strategies to deal with crisis and their impact on work performance.

There are many factors that could cause crisis and in general it can be said that crisis is the result of lack of coherence between organisation and its internal and external environments.  Among the triggers of crisis in organisations are

  • Weak Financial Capabilities.
  • Lack of clarity about objectives.
  • Weak in the Decision-Making.
  • Weak relations among employees.
  • Lack of interest in training.
  • Economic reasons (crises related to employment and markets).
  • Data related reasons (loss of stored, valuable information about suppliers and consumers).

Andy Gilman: “The secret of crisis management is not good versus bad, it’s preventing bad from getting worse”.
